dancing in the rain~
This painting was inspired by the Japanese folk tale "The Boy Who Drew Cats".
The tale is about a boy who is sent to a temple to become a priest. Rather than doing his chores, he draws cats all day! The head priest tells him -if you can not be a priest perhaps you will be an artist - The young boy eventually uses his gift to his advantage in the face of danger... I recommend reading.
*The under drawing for this piece was done in graphite, the majority of this is acrylic washes. The feline's face was later detailed and darkened with India ink, as well as detailed with white gouache ( I like the effect of gouache for details ) I touched up some of the foreground and mid-ground with dark grey colored pencils.
You can order a 5 by 7 print of this piece at my Etsy shop!
